Poor Jake

Postscript – the Belgian work horse that fell at the Market Square, whose name was Jake, suffered a badly damaged leg and had to be put down later on Wednesday. Ellen had just taken a photo of him before he fell. We had hoped that he would be able to stand again, but that was [...]

Canada, eh

We didn’t get an early start afterall. We stayed up late with our hosts Ellen and Mary and their neighbour, Cidy playing on the Xbox. We formed a band and played bad rock music until 2am. What a hoot!
Pam sampled the local beer (Molson Canadian, Alpine Summit, Moosehead). Molson Canadian was the winner (thanks Ian for [...]

Where in the world am I?

Yes you got it, I’m lost again in time and place.
Yes I did manage to leave San Fran in a reasonably civil state (sore bum in all) and had a really great time.
In hindsight though, maybe the locals don’t really know what they are talking about. Jo and I probably should have been a little [...]

Loyalists

Still struggling with the time differences, but we were out by midday for a walk around St John township. First stop was the Loyalist Burial Ground then a visit to the city market.
A cruise ship was in port so there were lots of tourists around on a lovely hot day (29 degrees Celsius). Many of the [...]

St John – fog city

We had a very late start on Tuesday – crossing over several time zones had finally caught up with us. But after a hearty Canadian breakfast (in the afternoon) and ensuring that the fog had finally lifted, we headed off for a quick tour of the city. We visited the Reversing Falls which are caused [...]

Oh Canada!

We left the hostel at 4.10am Monday morning for the short shuttle ride to the San Francisco airport (20 mins). The freeway was six lanes (going one way) in places and I was glad I wasn’t the driver! How Americans cope driving on the right side of the road with six lanes is beyond me.
We [...]

Last day in the Bay Area

The weather turned cold on the last day in the Bay Area. From a sticky 28 degrees Celsius on Friday, we were treated to an icy cold wind on Sunday. We came across a market at the United Nations square, where Pam managed to convince a San Francisco police officer to pose for the camera. [...]

The Streets of San Francisco

We spent half an hour in a queue waiting to catch the cablecar to Fisherman’s Wharf. The wait would have been a lot longer if Pam hadn’t unknowingly jumped the queue! For $11 we purchased a passport for cablecars, trams, buses and train. Turned out to be very good value.
The tram took us up Powell St [...]

20 June again and again

Well we got off to a great start, Cleaned the floors, put out the rubbish then checked bags for the last time before we hit the road. Jo was fine , so too were the bags.
The taxi arrived on time having made a wee detour to Jo’s work to pick up cell phone which was [...]

Phone home

I upgraded to a Telecom World Mode cellphone, only to discover, upon trying to activate it for global roaming, that the phone cannot be used in Canada! So for those of you thinking of purchasing one of the new Telecom cellphones, only the Okta Mondo can be used both in the USA and Canada.
I have [...]
